It’s back to school, and for a lot of parents it means dusting off the lunchboxes and trying to find inspiration to make your child eat a healthy and balanced lunch at school. Almost half the children in this country take a packed lunch to school, but making a packed lunch every day in the rush before school can become a real nightmare.
Here are a few tips on making packed lunches fun, appetising and not take up your entire morning.
- Prepare lunches the night before by making fillings or fruit compotes. You can also add additional flavours to last night’s left over pasta by adding some chopped ham or tomatoes.
- Children are much more likely to eat prepared food, that takes little effort, so pop pealed Clementine (protected with clingfilm), or chopped raw vegetables wrapped in damp kitchen paper, into their lunches.
- Make the food in your child’s lunchbox look so attractive that other children are tempted. To make sandwiches more appealing cut them into shapes with cookie cutters or thread fruit onto a straw.
Try these delicious alternatives to the ham sandwich to entice your child:
Fruity Flapjacks – It’s a good idea to get your child help you make some delicious but healthy homemade treats like these flapjacks or Apple and Carrot Muffins and take some to school to share with their friends.
Variety is the spice of life and with a little effort there can be so much more to lunchboxes than sandwiches, crisps and chocolate biscuits.
